What kind of products do you sell?

Devoted Human sells handcrafted and custom-made goods for cats, dogs, and the people who love them. We also sell Devoted Human branded products including t-shirts, bumper stickers, journals, and pet ID tags.

Is everything that you sell handmade?

No. We use the terms “handcrafted” and “custom-made” to describe our products because “handmade” indicates that an item is always made without machinery. Since some of our products are made by machines (e.g. the cutting of metal on the dog tags, the sewing of a dog bed, graphic design on a computer), we feel this is a more accurate representation of the goods we offer.

Is everything that you sell made in the USA?

We are proud to work exclusively with artists and craftsmen who are located in the United States. The vast majority of the materials used in our products are also made in the USA.

We are extremely conscientious about the sourcing of our products. We seek out businesses who not only help the U.S. economy, but also meet our moral and ethical standards.

For example, our grey and white Devoted Human t-shirt comes from a company in Hickory, NC called Recover and are screen printed locally. Recover's t-shirt materials are made in North Carolina and are hand-sewn by by makers in living wage fair trade co-ops in Haiti and Guatemala. We found when sourcing “Made in the USA” t-shirts that this company's commitment to quality, sustainable business practices, and fair trade far outweighed other American made t-shirts.

Do you sell any eco-friendly products?

Yes! A number of our artists make eco-friendly products, and we are always on the lookout for eco-conscious companies to work with.

Our Devoted Human t-shirts, made by Recover (mentioned in the question above), are made of 100% recycled materials -- recycled cotton and plastic water bottles that have been converted into shirt material. This combination makes them super soft while being better for the Earth. The Recover company also practices sustainability by minimizing dyes, reducing the use of chemicals and water, and eliminating plastic packaging.

I see something on the site that I want, but your site says that it is currently unavailable. When will it return?

Since most of our products are made by hand, there are times when a product will run out of stock. There also may be times when an artist is away from their studio and unable to ship their products, so we may make an item unavailable until they return.

I saw something on the site that I want and it isn't there anymore. What happened to it?

Some of the items we sell are one-of-a-kind, and thus there's only one available. Sometimes we'll have an item that an artist has requested we take off the site for a while as they work on other projects. We also may occasionally have an item that isn't selling well that we opted to remove from the site.

SHIPPING

How soon will my order ship?

If you are purchasing a Devoted Human-branded product, it will ship within one business day.

If you are purchasing an artist or craftsman-made product, it will generally ship within three business days. These shipping time frames are longer than ours because so many of our artists are out of their studios attending gallery openings, craft fairs, and other arts-related events. We want to support their efforts in the community and thus provide them with more time to ship your item.

Please note that there are some items that are custom-made and consequently require more time. If an item will take longer than the above time frames, it will be noted on the individual product page.

Who ships the item(s) that I've ordered and how long will it take?

The items that you purchase from Devoted Human will be shipped to you directly from the artist or craftsman's studio. The distance between their studio and your house will determine the shipping time.

If you're purchasing a Devoted Human-branded product, they are shipped by the Devoted Human team in Asheville, NC. Asheville is as an easy trade route due to its location, so most customers will generally receive their item within 3-4 business days from the date of shipment.

What are your shipping options?

Our items are shipped by USPS, FedEx, and UPS and determined by the artist as the best method of shipment for the type of item that you've purchased. If you have a need for expedited shipping, please contact us at support@devotedhuman.com or via our Contact Form prior to purchase to discuss available options.

Why don't you ship outside of the United States?

At this time, Devoted Human only ships to United States addresses due to the highly fragile nature of so many of our items.

RETURNS

What is your return policy?

Our return policy allows for returns within 30 days from your receipt of the item (based on tracking information). It is in your best interest to contact us as soon as possible regarding returns or exchanges. If 30 days have passed since your purchase, we will unfortunately be unable to offer you a refund or exchange.

What items are eligible for return?

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be carefully repacked in the original packaging.

Several types of goods are exempt from being returned, including perishable and customized goods.

Additional non-returnable items:

  • Gift cards
  • Health and personal care items such as soaps or pet shampoos
  • Paper products like books or journals with obvious signs of use (a cracked spine, writing, etc.) 


To complete your return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase. You received an emailed receipt from Devoted Human immediately after purchase which serves as your proof of purchase.

How do I return an item that is eligible for return?

To return your product, please email us at returns@devotedhuman.com. Be sure to include the name of the person who placed the order and the email address tied to the order. We'll then send you a link to the return form and help you get the return processed quickly.

Please DO NOT automatically ship the returned item back to us. We need you to fill out the return form first and then we can provide you with the address where you will send the returned item. 

You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable.

If you are exchanging the product for another item, please allow ample time for the exchange. The order will require receipt, processing, and shipment of the new item from the artist or craftsman. This may take up to two weeks following our receipt of the return.

Please be sure to use a trackable shipping service or purchase shipping insurance. We are unable to guarantee that we will receive your returned item.

Where are your artists and craftsmen located?

All of our artists and craftsmen are located in the United States. Since we're located in Asheville, NC, many of our artists also call this home. We will be expanding our reach by traveling to arts communities throughout the U.S. to find exciting new products for you and your cat or dog.

We search out makers who create unique, high quality items that our customers will love. We work with artists and craftsmen who are well-established and have developed a successful process for shipping their products to customers. ABOUT DEVOTED HUMAN

Who created Devoted Human?

Devoted Human was founded by Meredith Bennett, a lifelong lover of animals with a background in marketing, sales, entrepreneurship, and business strategy. Having grown up in Annapolis, MD, she has been deeply influenced by arts communities and was drawn to the creativity and ingenuity of Asheville, NC that led her to move here from Los Angeles in 2010.

She has been searching for a way to support talented, artistic individuals while being able to help animal rescue organizations. After some intense soul-searching and travel to several artist's communities, she realized that she could help artists, give back to animal rescue organizations, and provide the world with difficult-to-find pet products by creating Devoted Human.
